Notes on Meeting Five
Hello all Arvistarting members and newcomers! Last weeks meeting I think we can all agree got a little off track and made us all question what Arvistarting really is. This week we want to regroup and reconfigure what we all want this group to be as a collective with a non-hierarchy, leaderless form of organization where everyone’s opinion and vote is equal to everyone else’s. Lets meet and have that discussion in a peaceful calm and positive environment. Which is also why we are beginning this weeks meeting with a short but much needed meditation circle led by Matthew Cooper in order to focus everyone’s energy and become more calm and present at the meeting to discuss our hopes and aspirations for what we want this collective to become! We are also hoping to share some of the collaborative work that has come out of Arvistarting thus far, so if you have a piece of work that you feel came to being due to this collective through collaboration, inspiration, or anything at all please feel free to bring your work to share in this “Show and Tell” duration of the meeting to inspire, get feedback, and even to seek constructive criticism of your work depending on what you’re looking for. Together we can make this artist collective something bigger than we even imagined possible at it’s humble beginnings, all we need is a positive non-hierarchy system in which to do so. So let’s re-group and start this new chapter of our collective this Wednesday at 9:00pm at Matthew Radwan and Alex Simmons’ house at 2229 Whitaker street. 2229 Whitaker Street (Between 38th and 39th on Whitaker) Only a couple blocks away from Arnold Hall. If need be, you can take the bus to Arnold and walk and if you are unable to access the bus system you can always ask someone on this Facebook page for a ride (I’d be more than willing). «<Matt = 603-204-1379»» ««Clinton = 907-299-6227» Hope to see all your beautiful spirits there at our fifth official meeting. “Let’s trade in all our judging for appreciating. Let’s lay down our righteousness and just be together.” -Ram Dass
First Meeting Notes
Our first meeting, held at Jon Taylor’s house, was a quick introduction and brainstorm to construct an organized foundation on top of which events, and meetings can flow freely and creatively unobstructed.
“Making art sacred through community” This is our objective, our mission statement. Every facet of Arvistarting needs to support our intent. At the meeting yesterday we introduced six elements of Arvistarting; Meetings, Happenings, Galleries, Marketing, Spirit & the Database. These independent elements will come together to form a loopy, self-generating network that will support us in reaching our objective. Meetings – Weekly meetings, held at a different members houses will be opportunities for us to plan the months events, decide happenings, organize galleries, form a database, discuss marketing & spirituality. We will explore new ideas and directions, and most importantly help create a core group of reliable individuals who will fan the flame. Happenings – Monthly, or more, these will be events where people come together to participate in a planned artistic venture organized by members at the meetings. Held at different locations around town, these Happenings will be the actualizations of our ideas, the alchemical transformation of the mundane to the sacred. As well as generating content for galleries and marketing, the main purpose of a Happening will be to bring our separate minds together under one idea. The materials for the happenings will come from the Database. Database – The Database will be an organized collection of the materials that Arvistarting has access to. Contributed by members, paint, canvas, lighting, building materials, tools, connections and all sorts of odds and ends that may be useful to us in the Happenings. The Database represents a log of our material lead, the unspiritual “things” that we will convert through imagination into gold. Galleries – Galleries will be our presentation to the public of what we have built. Tangible, interactive, and fun, these galleries will be held at houses, parks, shopping carts, and “real-life” galleries. The gallery is also to serve as a catalyst for the creation of spaces, whether actual or illusory. Marketing – Marketing represents both the local image, and the online portrayal of Arvistarting. Social media will allow us to connect with people instantaneously. News outlets, word of mouth and the internet are incredibly powerful tools in reaching the public. Spirit – The spiritual aspect of Arviststarting is a recognition of the importance of sacred objects in our lives and the current, culturally driven lack of respect for sanctity. The realization that we ourselves can create a sacred object is a powerful force. And the collective perspective is a coalescence of each participating individuals point of view. How does our spirit look?
